Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa

San Luis Obispo, California.  Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa sits in the middle of downtown San Luis Obispo, so the preserved buildings and grounds are limited to the church and a few buildings.  There is no tour of the grounds, but you can visit the museum, the garden, and the church.  Their museum presents a variety of Native American tools and art including grinding stones, arrow/spear heads, and baskets.  They also display artifacts that may be been a part of the mission.  It’s interesting to see the different artifacts, but what seems missing is a continuity with mission life; it has more the feel of a history museum than a mission museum.  Walking through the small garden we enjoyed seeing the old mission bells on display.  The church was beautiful and has a large wing to the right of the altar for addition seating.
